Week Six

Theme: Pumpkins

Letter: R
We met "Ricky Raccoon." We had fun making the "r" sound. We noticed that "R" & "r" look differently, but they both make the same sound. We learned how to "say" "R" in sign language. We used our bodies to make "R". Show & Tell was fun. Some children wore red or robot clothing. We saw rabbits, Ronald McDonald, red flowers, and met my robot (Roomba).

Books:
  • The Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis
  • The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano
  • Pumpkins by Ken Robbins
  • The Rain Came Down by David Shannon
  • The Radish & the Rabbit
Science: Do pumpkins float like a boat? or sink like a rock?
No matter what size, shape, or color of a pumpkin is it will float. We had fun trying to hold pumpkins under water and watching them bounce up to the surface. We were able to see the insides of a pumpkin (the pulp, seeds, & meat), touch them, and smell them. All pumpkins have the same insides. We compared canned pumpkin to a fresh pumpkin.

Art:
  • Robots--It is amazing to see what little minds can create from recycled junk! Each robot was a true masterpiece!
  • Pumpkin/Jack-O-Lanterns--We were able to practice our cutting & gluing skills. We learned a song to go with our art...Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Round & Fat, Turn into a Jack-O-Lantern, Just like That! Some of the kiddos wanted to sing it for you at home. So now you have the words to help them :)
Snacks:
  • Round Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies & Pretzels
  • Popcorn, Cheese Sticks, & Apple Slices
  • Granola Bars & Raisins
  • Raisins & Rainbow Fish
  • Round Vanilla Wafers
  • Pumpkin Muffins
T/TH PM Field Trip to Hee Haw Farm:
I feel truly blessed that we had wonderful weather for our outing! We all enjoyed the slide & the pumpkin patch. I was a little worried that we weren't having too much fun because we were all a little shy at first, and then we discovered the Corn Box. We made corn "angels", buried each other in the corn, jumped, swam, and rolled in the corn. It made us all sad that we couldn't stay there all day long! We are very blessed to have had an amazing photographer with us! Thank you for sharing your talent with us! The pictures are amazing!

  • Row, Row, Row, Your Boat
  • Little Robert Rabbit (Little Bunny Foo-Foo)
