Week Thirteen

My apologies. I have had some camera/computer dilemmas this week and was unable to take more pictures.

Theme:
Dinosaurs
Our field trip to the Museum of Paleontology at BYU was a lot of fun! ALL of the children were extremely well behaved!!! And, although the museum is small, I learned something new each time I went. We discovered the shark "poop fossils" on our third outing. We all giggled over that. We talked about meat eating dinosaurs & plant (vegetable & fruit) eating dinosaurs. We are all happy that dinosaurs are extinct. Many of the children are dinosaur aficionados and taught us all something new!

Letter: D
Digging for "D" things: We took turns digging in a box of pinto beans for "D" things. We met "Daisy Dog." We learned the sign language for "D". The sign can help us remember what direction lower-case "d" goes.

Choosing Time: Dinosaurs, Dolls, Dress-ups, Duplos, Dinosaur Puzzle....

  • Popcorn
  • Popcorn & Go-gurts
  • Dinosaur Fruit Snacks & Cheez-its
  • Dinosaur Turkey Sandwiches & Dinosaur Eggs (Cucumbers)

  • Bark George! by Jules Feiffer

  • Disney Dominoes

Art: Dinosaur Silhouette on Sponge Painted Sunset/Volcano

Writing: Practiced Letter "D"

Cutting & Math: Advent Calendar

Reading: We spent some time reading rhyming words with "dog". Our other words we practiced include: dress, door, do, dad, & dragon.

Science: We compared our feet to a Dinosaur's footprint. We learned two ideas of how dinosaurs became extinct.

Some cute moments:

  • As I was reading, Day out with Daddy, one of the lines reads, "The wildest (animal) is my daddy," and one of the children quickly said, "My dad is the wildest." Another child said, "My dad is silly." "My dad is crazy." And, on and on it went :)
  • "Miss Jodi, are you sure these dinosaurs are dead?"
  • I learned that one of you has a big pool in your backyard that used to have a shark in it.
  • "Miss Jodi, why are you doing that?" "Doing what?" "Making that (a spiral out of Dominoes)?" "For Fun." "Oh."
