First Day of School!

Theme: Welcome to Your School! Let's learn names and rules.

Choosing Time: Duplo Blocks, Castle Puzzle, Dinosaurs, Dolls
Several of us had a wonderful time opening our new package of Toy Story 3 Duplo Blocks and putting them together! I took each child's picture for a special project.

Movement: "_______, wearing a 'blue' shirt...." We sat in a circle. I called out a name. The child stood up and paraded around the circle in whatever moving way he wanted to. We read, How do Dinosaurs Go to School? We practiced moving how a Dinosaur might.

Recess: We spent some time outside. We played on the swing-set and the tire swing. We jumped on a mini trampoline. We kicked some balls around.

Snack Time: Nathan was our "Helping Hand" today. We practiced our two snack time songs. We sanitized. We ate vanilla wafers.

Lesson: I made a large poster with some school rules. We each took a turn to find a picture that matched the rule. Then we put the picture next to the written rule. We had fun learning a finger-play together to help us remember the rules. We had two puppets demonstrate how to behave at school.
Music: ABC Song, Wheels on the Bus, & Hello Everybody

Mini-Lesson: We read the book, The Kissing Hand. We learned that our mommies and daddies get lonely while we are at school and so they need something to remind them how much we love them while we're away.

Art: "Kissing Hands"--Many of the children traced their own hands. Each hand was decorated with lots of love so you won't be too lonely while they are at school :)

Math: We made a graph to determine how most of us traveled to school today. We learned that most of us drove in a car. We practiced counting and comparison.
