Who Lived In Provo A Long Time Ago?
Among our highlights of the day was the awesome step stool to the drinking fountain!
Theme: We all had a lovely time visiting the BYU Museum of Peoples & Cultures. We played a game to identify 5 pictures of Freemont artifacts and then matched them to modern day equivalents. We learned that all people eat, play, wear clothes, and cook. We had fun learning about weaving.
Choosing Time: Little People Village
AM Snack: Popcorn
PM Snack: Carrot Sticks, Pretzel Sticks, Teddy Bear Cookies
Art: "huipils" or "wee-pills" which is Spanish for a Mayan Shirt
Book: Abuela's Weave by Omar S. Castaneda

Up & Under
Theme: Letter "U"
Choosing Time: Helium Balloons (UP), Tunnel, Tent, Cars & Trains, Animals, Zoob, & UNO (some of the kiddos really enjoyed this game! It was a fun way to recognize similarities in color and numbers)
Movement: Hukey-Pukey (Put a hand up, put a hand under...)
Lesson: We had fun talking about things that begin with "U". I pointed out that the word "you" makes the sound of letter "U", but it is spelled with a "Y". Letter "U" makes two sounds and we had fun practicing both. The "uh" sound was the favorite. Ask how we did it. We took turns choosing a picture of something that begins with "U", showing the class, tossing the picture into an upside down umbrella, and then running around the umbrella while we all sang a little diddy (Uncle, Uncle, uh, uh, uh...)
AM Snack: Cheese & Crackers & Strawberry Marshmallows
PM Snack: "U"-shaped Jell-O Jigglers & Carrots
Game: Who Is Missing Behind the Umbrella?
Science: Can 12 balloons lift you off the ground like the balloons did in the movie, "UP" ? We had fun trying. I took 3 tiny plastic animals and tied them to balloons. One went up, one jumped, and the other stuck to the ground. It was fun to see some of the kids tied more balloons to the 3rd animal to see if they could get it off the ground. Sadly, it didn't, but I was impressed with their thought process.
Art: "U" pictures. What can you make with a letter "U"? Everyone was so creative! We had "U's" for hair, tunnels, mountains, rainbows, bridges, and the most creative was a spinning horseshoe :) Loved all of them!!!

April 21, 2011
I apologize for getting this posted so slowly! I couldn't find my camera until today...and then my battery died...so sorry no new pictures for today's post!

Choosing Time: Bunny Snaps, Bunny Bowling, Bunny & Egg Pop-Ups, Chicks, and "How Many Eggs Will Fit?" (A Counting & Volume Game), & Easter Puzzles
AM Snack: Rice Crispy Treats & Popcorn
Circle Time: I had an Easter Basket Filled with eggs. We took turns choosing an egg. Whatever was inside the egg gave us a clue to tell us what song, movement or story we would do.
Movement: Bunny Hop, Bunny Hokey Pokey, Little Chick
Music: You Are My Sunshine, Raindrops, 3 Little Ducks, Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Bunny Coming Near, Itsy Bitsy Spider
Books: Max's Chocolate Chicken by Rosemary Wells & Here Comes Peter Cottontail by Steve Nelson
Art: Easter Baskets & Bunny or Chick Stick Puppets
Game: Easter Egg Hunt With A Twist: We searched for eggs. Then we gave Miss Jodi the bag of Empty eggs in exchange for candy & toys. The morning class had fun hiding the empty eggs for the afternoon class. As you can see from the pictures, the eggs weren't too difficult to find, but we still had loads of fun!

Little Chicks
Theme: Easter Fun
Science: What could be more Easter-like than real baby chicks? We had fun holding, petting, and watching my three little chicks. We observed how they scratch, flap their wings, and peck. We noticed how they like to perch and cluck. We saw some baby feathers and some adult feathers. Chickens do not have teeth.
Choosing Time: Cars, Duplos, Chicks, and a Glow-Drawing Mat.
AM Snack: Donuts, Kool-Aid, Cheese Sticks, & Fruit
PM Snack: Popcorn & Mini-Marshmallows
Movement: If You Like the Easter Bunny..., The Hippity Hoppity Easter Bunny, Bunny Pokey, The Bunny Hop
Math: 10 Little Easter Bunnies
Lesson: I drew several things that begin with "T" and the children guessed what they were. We practiced the "T" sound and the kiddos came up with some words with the "T" sound in them.
Books: What Do The Fairies Do With All Those Teeth? by Michel Luppens
Music: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Tiny Turtle, & Robbie Rabbit
Art: We finished our Butterflies & Drew Easter Landscapes
Writing: We practiced writing Letter "T"

California Pizza Kitchen Field Trip
April 5, 2011
We had a wonderful field trip to the California Pizza Kitchen! Thank you to all the mothers who came to help!
Nathan & June had a blast playing tic-tac-toe together. They both were green circles which led to a win-win gaming experience :)
We enjoyed our tour through the kitchen: seeing the giant dishwasher, the cooks, the soda machines, the giant bread slicer, the frig and freezer....
We had fun coloring, but the best part was making and eating our own pizzas! YUM! I enjoyed watching the kids make their pizzas so much that I forgot to take pictures. It was interesting to see who likes sauce and who doesn't. Some, like myself, were happy with just cheese and sauce, while others loved all the toppings: sauce, sausage, pepperoni, cheese, ham...And, some kiddos, were happy to snack on the cold toppings while we waited for everyone to finish :)
