Theme: Letter "U"
Choosing Time: Helium Balloons (UP), Tunnel, Tent, Cars & Trains, Animals, Zoob, & UNO (some of the kiddos really enjoyed this game! It was a fun way to recognize similarities in color and numbers)
Movement: Hukey-Pukey (Put a hand up, put a hand under...)
Lesson: We had fun talking about things that begin with "U". I pointed out that the word "you" makes the sound of letter "U", but it is spelled with a "Y". Letter "U" makes two sounds and we had fun practicing both. The "uh" sound was the favorite. Ask how we did it. We took turns choosing a picture of something that begins with "U", showing the class, tossing the picture into an upside down umbrella, and then running around the umbrella while we all sang a little diddy (Uncle, Uncle, uh, uh, uh...)
AM Snack: Cheese & Crackers & Strawberry Marshmallows
PM Snack: "U"-shaped Jell-O Jigglers & Carrots
Game: Who Is Missing Behind the Umbrella?
Science: Can 12 balloons lift you off the ground like the balloons did in the movie, "UP" ? We had fun trying. I took 3 tiny plastic animals and tied them to balloons. One went up, one jumped, and the other stuck to the ground. It was fun to see some of the kids tied more balloons to the 3rd animal to see if they could get it off the ground. Sadly, it didn't, but I was impressed with their thought process.
Art: "U" pictures. What can you make with a letter "U"? Everyone was so creative! We had "U's" for hair, tunnels, mountains, rainbows, bridges, and the most creative was a spinning horseshoe :) Loved all of them!!!
