I briefly told how St. Patrick was a real man who traveled through Ireland teaching people about Heavenly Father. We had fun with a Shamrock Finger-play. We also had fun with a counting shamrock game. Jackson brought a fun four-leaf clover for us to see.

We had fun sharing what green foods we like and ones we don't :) Seeing everyone in green clothes was a nice spring time look and I couldn't help but feel like Spring was here today :)
Movement: 10 Exercises

Book: In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming
AM Story-Telling: I had several pictures of green items in a green hat. Each child took a turn to choose a picture and invent how it could be part of the story. I went first and initially helped quite a bit. We practiced our entire story a couple of times. Then when we finished a few of the children chose new pictures and began a completely new story. It was awesome!
PM Show & Tell: We had some fun green things to see today! Thank you Susie for bringing our first "Show, Tell, Share, & Eat"! We all loved the cucumbers.

To Infinity & Beyond!

Theme: Space

Choosing Time: Star Wars Minis, Big Brick Blocks, Space Suits & Shoes, Space Books, Buzz Puzzle

Music: I Want To Go To Outer Space, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Hey Diddle Diddle

Movement: As we learned about each planet we chose some actions that represented each one. For example, Mercury is either boiling hot or freezing. We pretended our feet were burning and had to run fast...We also did a "Space" Dance as aliens might (The Macarena).

AM Snack: Fruit Snacks & Cheese & Crackers

PM Snack: Cheese Sticks & Wheat Thins

Book: There's No Place Like Space by
We also looked at several books about space with authentic pictures.

Science: We made a "rocket" using an air-tight container, Alka-Seltzer, and a little H2O. We talked how the medicine mixes with the water and makes bubbles. The bubbles grow and push the lid off of the container. The gas pressure is what makes rockets launch.

Lesson: We have 8 planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, & Neptune
The Sun is an enormous Star. We should never look directly at it. The moon is like a mirror and reflects the sun's light for us at nighttime. Earth is our planet. The Earth is always spinning even though we can't feel it.

Rainbows, Rocks, & Reptiles, Oh My!

Theme: Letter "R"

This has been a fun week! I will do my best to accurately summarize this week's events. Both classes went on a field trip to the BYU Bean Museum & both classes had some fun with letter "R" depending on the day...My biggest regret is that I forgot my camera when the AM class went to the museum. So sorry to have not taken pictures!

Choosing Time: Among others, we played a game called, "OH, Rats!" We also made "rainbow" necklaces by stringing fruit loops in a rainbow pattern.

AM Snacks:
On Tuesday we had donuts & cookies. Today we had fruit loops & popcorn.

PM Snacks: On Tuesday we had red grapes & cheese sticks. Today we had fruit snacks & fish crackers.

Music: Rain Is Falling, Little House, Peter Rabbit, Rubber Reindeer, If All The Raindrops.., & I Can Sing A Rainbow (my version)

Movement: Penguin Shuffle, Ring Around The Roses, Run for 5, Head, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes, Hokey-Pokey, Beetle Dance

Science: Love Potion (What happens when red ice cubes and blue ice cubes melt?)

Lesson:
We noticed that capital "R" looks different than lower case "r". We practiced making the "R" sound. We read a itsy bitsy book about "R." We thought of some things that begin with "R" such as rabbit, rock, rainbow, rose, ring, robot, red...

Books: White Rabbit's Color Book & Grey Rabbit's Odd One Out by Alan Baker, The Crayon Box that Talked by Shane Derolf, & What Makes a Rainbow? by Betty Ann Schwartz

Art: Hot Rainbow Rocks
Field Trip: The morning class was able to touch a Python, Bearded Dragon, & a Tortoise from Africa. The afternoon class was able to touch a Python, Gecko, & a Box Turtle. We all enjoyed seeing the various animals. We had a good talk about what kinds of things people and animals do when they are scared. For example, a squid will squirt ink, a skunk sprays, a snake may hiss & bite, a child may cry, run, or hit. We all have different reactions that show we are scared and so do animals. Most animals don't want to be mean. The morning class was able to see Humphrey the Elephant received his name tag. Thank you to all the mothers who came, drove, and helped supervise! I really appreciate you!
