Jingle All the Way

Theme:  Letter J
We met Jack the Jellyfish who introduced us to letter "J".  We took turns pulling items out of a Jar that begin with the letter "J" such as jaguar, jewels, jump rope, jeep, jet, jellybeans, jingle bell, jar of jam, baby Jesus....I suggested that Jesus is the best "J" item and the Most important reason for Christmas.

Choosing Time:  ABC Upper/Lower Case Pairing Puzzles, Letter J Hidden Picture Coloring Page, ...

Music & Movement:
  • Jingle Bells
  • Jack in the Box
  • Jumping Song (High, Low, Long, Frog, One legged, Rabbit, Grasshopper jumps...)
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Shepherd's Carol
  • Christmas Bells Are Ringing
  • Jiggle Like Jelly Fish (This was Hilarious!)
  • Criss-Cross Apple Juice...

Games:
  • How far can you jump?
  • ABC Bingo with Jelly Beans
  • Matched word pictures with the first letter sound

Math:  Do you like chocolate covered coconut jelly bellies?  We graphed our answers.

Art:
  • Baby Jesus in a Manger
  • Jelly Fish ( We will be finishing these next week)

Snacks:
  • "J" Jelly Sandwiches & "J" Jello Jigglers

Happy Thanksgiving

Theme:  Thanksgiving
We are grateful for many things.  Thank you for all you do!  Have a wonderful holiday!

Choosing Time:  Make Indian Necklaces, Blocks, Tee-Pee, Animals

Art:  Handy Turkeys & Indian Headbands

Music & Movement:
  • The "Turkey" Dance
  • 10 Little Indians
  • I Am A Little Indian Boy
Games:
  • Thanksgiving Dinner Memory--"For Thanksgiving Dinner I will eat ...."  Each child added something and then had to repeat what was said before.
  • Thanksgiving Bingo

  • Fish Crackers & Cheese Sticks
  • Popcorn & Fruit Snacks

Ice Cream & Indian Corn

Theme:  Letter "I"We met Ida Insect who told us about the 2 sounds letter "I" makes.  We learned the sign for "I".  We thought of some other words that begin with "I" such as igloo, ice, iron, itch, ivy, in, interesting, and into.


Game:  Build an Ice Cream Cone
We each took a turn to choose a "flavor" of ice cream and then added it to our cone.  We did the activity on the back.  Our ice cream cone ended up taller than us!

Choosing Time:  Insect Matching Game, Letter "I" Memory, Blocks, Little People...

Music & Movement:

Reading:  Some of our new words include "I", "if ", "in", and "is."  We also read together:  A Pilgrim Rebus Story.

Science: 
  • We learned some parts of an insect--especially that all insects have 6 legs.  We then took picture cards of several bugs and put them in the insect or bug pile.
  • Can you pick up an ice cube with a string?

 

Art:
  • Indian Corn Painting (We learned about Indian Corn--its many colors and how important it was to Native Americans)
  • Flavored Ice Painting
  • Dragonfly:  color by color shape (great fine motor skill & and scissor practice)

Math:  We played a dice counting/coloring ice cream game

Fall Treasures


Theme:  Fall
We talked about what Fall is and how we have another word, Autumn, also.  We discussed changes that happen in nature during Autumn.

Music & Movement:
  • I'm A Nut
  • Squirrel, Squirrel

  • Leaves Are Falling Down
Fall Treasure Walk:  We had a lovely time walking together searching for Fall "treasures" to put on our "wrist sticky bands".

Science:  We touched and explored acorns & chestnuts.  We learned that acorns come from Oak trees and that they are both a food for squirrels and a seed to plant.  We also learned that some trees and plants stay green all winter such as Pine trees and Ivy.
